ORF programme "Wahl 24 - zur SACHE Spezial" with DPI Director Fellhofer
According to a recent survey, over 40 per cent of people want politicians to pay more attention to the areas of asylum and immigration. As part of the reporting on the 2024 National Council elections, an edition of "zur SACHE Spezial" on ORF III on 13 September therefore focused on the election topics of migration, asylum, integration and work. One focus was also on religious extremism, which has also moved into the spotlight in recent months due to Islamist assassination plans. Lisa Fellhofer, Director of the Documentation Centre Political Islam (DPI), was a guest on the programme, which was hosted by ORF journalist Wolfgang Geier. She spoke in particular about the background to Islamist radicalisation and the associated identity conflicts. Other experts included Gudrun Biffl (migration and labour market researcher), Susanne Wiesinger (primary school teacher in Vienna/Favoriten), Paul Schmidt (Secretary General of the Austrian Society for European Politics) and Clemens Neuhold (journalist, Profil).

The LGBTQ+ community within Europe is increasingly confronted with homophobic and religiously motivated political extremism. As part of a project supported by the documentation centre in terms of research funding, Arno Tausch has published a study on this topic with Springer Verlag. -

At a press conference on Wednesday, the Documentation Centre Political Islam (DPI) summed up its work following its foundation in July 2020 and published its latest annual report with insights into current developments. After the presentation on Wednesday, numerous media from the TV, radio, print and online sectors in Austria reported on it. -

A key focus of the new DPI annual report is on the events of 7 October 2023 and their aftermath. Following the terrorist attack, problematic developments in European society have become even more visible. Other important topics include the problematic influence of foreign actors, such as those from Iran or Turkey, on parts of the Muslim community and current trends in Salafist milieus.
