Press conference on the new DPI annual report in the media
On 28 August 2025, the Documentation Centre Political Islam (DPI) presented its 2024 annual report with new findings. The new publication shows how the increasing polarisation and conflict-ridden global situation have been increasingly exploited by various actors of political Islam as a vehicle for spreading their ideological agenda. Beyond social media, religiously extremist narratives are being spread in order to exploit various communities and influence society and public debate in Austria.
Following the press conference on the Documentation Centre's new annual report, numerous media outlets from the TV, radio, print and online sectors across Austria reported on it. The publication was presented by Lisa Fellhofer (DPI Director), Ferdinand Haberl (Deputy DPI Director) and Mouhanad Khorchide (Chair, Scientific Advisory Board of the DPI). In addition to ORF, the private broadcasters ServusTV and PULS 4 were also present.

Following the publication of the DPI report “Hezbollah in Europe: Media and Mobilization,” several media outlets in Austria reported on it. The extremist content of the Hezbollah propaganda channel Al-Manar, which was highlighted by the DPI, is also available online in Austria. Among other things, the publication was discussed on the ORF program ZIB 1. -

The new DPI publication examines how Hezbollah disseminates its content in German-speaking countries via its own media platforms such as Al-Manar. The Shiite Islamist organisation is active in various areas worldwide through its networks and structures. -

The editorial team of ZUKUNFT magazine, in cooperation with the Documentation Centre Political Islam (DPI) and Terre des Femmes Austria, has dedicated its November issue to the topic of ‘Political Islam’. Contributions from experts show that religious extremism poses a considerable challenge to liberal democracy on many levels.
