The Austrian Fund for the Documentation of Religiously Motivated Political Extremism (Documentation Centre Political Islam) participated in the sixth conference of the European Academy of Religion (EuARe), which took place from 19 to 23 June 2023 at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, with two scientific presentations. The Fund participated in the prestigious event in the spirit of international exchange and networking. This year, the annual conference was held under the motto “Religion from the Inside” and featured over 150 panels. More than 900 participants from various academic disciplines and different countries took part. The contributions of the Documentation Centre were entitled “Investing in the Ākhira: Islamic Missio-nary Activity and the Materialism of the Afterlife” and “Utopia in Islamic Activism: The Case of Hizb ut-Tahrir”. The two lectures focused on the neoliberal tendency of ideas about the afterlife of modern European Islamic missionary movements and the caliphate theory of Hizb ut-Tahrir.
