Following the publication of the new DPI study ‘The AKP and the Muslim Brotherhood: Making and Unmaking an Islamist Alliance in the Middle East and Europe’ by Jan-Markus Vömel, the director of the Documentation Centre Political Islam (DPI), Lisa Fellhofer, spoke in recent interviews with the daily newspapers Die Presse and Kurier. Among other things, she spoke about worrying developments and the attempted influence of Islamist actors.
In an interview with Die Presse editor Daniel Bischof, the DPI director also warned of growing social polarisation. Terms such as ‘Islamism’ should not be avoided for fear of stigmatisation, because without clear language, the problem cannot be named - and therefore cannot be solved. In an interview with Kurier editor Johanna Kreid, DPI Director Fellhofer spoke about the contents of the new DPI study and how political Islam actors operate, particularly online. The targeted dissemination of problematic narratives, misunderstood tolerance and Islamist actors who are trying to take over the Muslim community in Austria and other European countries were also discussed.
